Millicent Golf Club
The Beginning
Millicent Golf Club started in 2001 with just 40 members and a wide-open track with limited member facilities. The potential was always obvious and slowly the club stared to develop, with the clubhouse and practice facilities opening in 2006.
By late 2016 however, facing closure like so many clubs impacted by economic downturn, members approached the Killian family to lease the course. In 2020 the club was awarded a grant of €43k from the government’s Sports Capital grants scheme, which it used to buy new machinery to develop the course and turn a struggling club into a busy, active members club.
The Present
Now a flourishing parkland course with mature trees and a membership of over 1,000 across the men’s, ladies and junior divisions, Millicent is a vibrant competitive club with 18 interclub teams in 2024. We have a full calendar of events, including weekly open competitions, fun scrambles and a busy open week during the summer.
Our members and volunteer group take pride in the upkeep and maintenance of the clubhouse and surrounding areas. The recent addition of 2 beautiful structures sponsored by members, a pergola by the patio area a bog oak at the entrance, have added greatly to the clubhouse surrounds.
The excellent course conditions are a testament to the hard work from our dedicated greenkeeping team, run by Joe Killian. In the last few years we have invested heavily in scarifying the course to improve drainage and maintain excellent playing conditions all year round. Watch this video explaining the ongoing work.
The Future
2026 marks Millicent Golf Club’s 25-year anniversary. With a 35-year lease for the golf course and clubhouse now in place, the club’s 3-year business plan 2025-2027 is in full swing. This involves upgrading facilities, services and course equipment to continue providing a friendly, fair, diverse and inclusive club to all our members and visitors.
