About
The Beginning
Millicent Golf Club, designed by PGA Pro and course architect Tommy Halpin, opened its doors in 2001 with just a handful of members and modest facilities. The club steadily grew, and by 2006, the addition of a clubhouse, pro shop, and practice areas provided a welcoming space for members and guests to relax, socialize, and browse the latest golf equipment.
In 2016 members approached the Killian family to lease the course, marking a pivotal shift in the club’s progression. In 2020, the club was awarded a Sports Capital grant of €43k, which it used to buy new machinery and help drive the club into a busy, active members club.
The Present
Now a flourishing parkland course with mature trees and a membership of over 1,000 across the men’s, women’s and junior divisions, Millicent is a vibrant competitive club with 18 interclub teams in 2024. In July 2024 we hosted the Leinster Girls & Boys Open Championship and also the Boys & Girls U18 Interprovincial Championship. We have a full calendar of events, including weekly open competitions, fun scrambles and a busy open week during the summer.
Our members and team of volunteers take great pride in the upkeep and maintenance of the clubhouse and surrounding areas. The recent addition of 2 beautiful structures, generously gifted by club members: the pergola leading to the 1st tee box and the bog oak structure at the entrance have added greatly to the clubhouse surrounds.
The Future
2026 marks Millicent Golf Club’s 25-year anniversary.
We’ve come a long way and have big plans and improvements in the pipeline. This involves upgrading facilities, services and course equipment to continue providing a friendly, fair, diverse and inclusive club to all our members and visitors.
Maintaining course conditions is our top priority. The excellent all year round playing conditions are testament to the hard work of our dedicated greenkeeping team, run by Joe Killian. We continue to invest heavily in equipment and training, along with regular scarifying to improve ground drainage and keep the course in top condition.
