The Course

Designed by renowned course architect Tommy Halpin, the course features challenging but fair holes, lush fairways and five lengthy par 5’s. Meticulously maintained, with short distances between holes and excellent playing conditions all year-round, including full greens.

Plenty of water hazards abound – the front nine runs around the perimeter, with 4 holes lined by the river Liffey. More water features await on the back nine, which runs inside this loop.

Championship Golf. Exceptional Value

With distances from 5,400 to 7,000 yards, this par 73 championship course offers a challenge for golfers of all abilities. Level tee boxes, mature trees and lightning-fast greens mean Millicent is not just a fun course to play, it’s also a beautiful place to be.

“The flagship hole is undoubtedly the superb 17th measuring 198 yards from the back tee, with a carry over water to a small green, and large bunker to the back and right side”

Tommy Halpin, Course Architect.

Hole by Hole Description

1st – Par 5

Out of bounds all down the right, penalty area all down the left but a generous fairway. blind 2nd shot so look at the 2nd shot landing area from the tee. a huge green so take careful aim for your approach, don’t go long.

2nd – Par 5

A downhill short par 5 for the big hitters, out of bounds all down the right. careful with your approach, the t-shaped green is very narrow at the front with 2 big bunkers waiting to gobble up stray shots.

3rd – Par 4

A blind tee shot to this par 4, out of bounds all on the right with a generous landing area left of the fairway. be careful of landing short of the green—anything right or left will bounce further off target.

4th – Par 3

A short par 3, but beware—bunkers both right and left short of the green, and the River Liffey long of the green.

5th – Par 4

A tricky hole, short par 4 for the big hitters going straight over the pond, but for the rest of us mortals, lay up left of the pond, short of the trees to give the best approach. Pick your approach carefully; the front and back right is devilishly fast.

6th - Par 4

A tough par 4—stay away from the 3 bunkers traversing the fairway and keep right off the tee. When hitting to the green, make sure your first bounce is on the putting surface, as the green is raised and anything short will bounce away from the hole.

7th – Par 4

A short-ish par 4 but fraught with danger: River Liffey right and tree-lined left. The Liffey comes in on the front of the green, so all approaches should be left. An L-shaped green—beware a back right pin, unbelievably fast.

8th – Par 4

Awkward tee shot to this short-ish par 4. Be prudent and don’t hit driver unless you’re sure of hitting the fairway, as out of bounds comes into play with the usual wind helping you lose your ProV1. Uphill 2nd shot, so take an extra club.

9th – Par 3

Par 3 surrounded by bunkers—club perfect and it’s not too bad; club wrong and you’ll be getting your sand iron out.

10th – Par 4

If you like water, you’ll drool over this par 4. Water right and short of the tee—stay left. And if you miss that penalty area, there’s more for your approach. Take an extra club and make sure of clearing both ponds.

11th – Par 4

A long par 4, slightly uphill. Tee shot to the right-middle gives the best approach—a narrow opening between 2 bunkers. Stay out of the right bunker; it's deep, and the shot out is downhill. The green slopes severely from back to front, so stay short of the hole before putting.

12th – Par 4

Downhill par 4, well bunkered off the tee and a big green. Keep it straight and pick your landing areas, but be careful of the strong wind. A great green with some subtle double breaks.

13th – Par 5

Some members’ favourite par 5. Straight up but beware—it’s very well bunkered, and these can catch your tee shot. Lay up and approach to the green. The green can be fast from back to front and is narrow at the front.

14th – Par 4

A slight dog-leg left par 4. Find the fairway from the tee. The flag is often hidden behind the right bunker. There’s a hidden bunker front-left of the green. Really fast green with a bit of turn on it—be careful if putting downhill.

15th – Par 3

Some say the hardest hole on the course—a dastardly par 3, long and well bunkered. Don’t ever go left of the green—it’s an impossible up-and-down from there. Nothing wrong with going long though. There’s a slope to this green that makes some 2-putts almost impossible.

16th – Par 5

The longest par 5 in the world—or maybe just this course? Penalty areas both right and left off the tee. Straight up, but beware: 2 great shots still leave an approach that must miss the deepest bunkers on the course. A subtle break on this green.

17th – Par 3

Signature hole, par 3 over water. If you’re lacking confidence, there’s no shame in bailing out right. Another big green, so plenty of space for putting.

18th – Par 5

A lovely meandering par 5. Water awaits any shot that turns left. Tree-lined all the way up the right. If you can get to the 100-yard line, it’s all uphill to a massive 3-tiered green. Make sure to club up to the right level or you’ll have a treacherous time putting.
