Welcome to Millicent’s Local Rules

To ensure a fair and enjoyable experience for all players, please familiarize yourself with the following local rules. These rules supplement the official Rules of Golf and help maintain pace of play, safety, and course condition. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask at the Pro Shop.

Out of Bounds (Rule 18.2)

Outside the boundary of the course, defined by white line/stake or rut

No Play Zone (Rule 17.1e)

Spinneys, defined by Red/White stakes. Penalty relief must be taken from interferences by the NPZ under Rule R17.1e

Penalty Areas (Rule 17)

Defined by Red or Yellow lines/stakes. Dropping zones available on the 4th and 17th. The Red PA (River) on holes 4, 5, 6 and 7 extend to infinity.

Immovable Obstructions/Abnormal Course Conditions (Rule 16.1)

  • Sprinkler heads Staked trees & bushes
  • Fairway Distance Discs
  • Fixed course furniture
  • ESB Poles/Boxes and Guide Wires
  • Bell on 2nd hole
  • Teeing Ground and Tee Boxes - a ball lying in this area including the slopes and steps must be lifted and dropped within a club-length of the nearest point of relief not nearer the hole
  • Staked Trees, Internal Pathways, Damage in Bunkers caused by movement of water, including but not limited to, hollows and furrows

Animal Droppings, Model Local Rule F-12

At the players option, dung from an animal may be treated as ground under repair outside of penalty areas.

Penalty for Playing a Ball from a Wrong Place in Breach of Local Rules

General Penalty under R14.7a

Defining 'No Play Zones', Model Local Rule E-8.2

The area within and defined by the red/white penalty area known as spinneys or No Play Zones are located on:

  • The left of the 1st hole
  • Left of the 2nd hole
  • Left of the 6th hole
  • Left of the 7th hole
  • Left of the 10th hole
  • Left of the 11th hole
  • Right of the 12th green
  • Right of the 14th hole
  • Back of the 15th green
  • Right and left of the 16th hole
  • Back of the 17th green
  • Right and left of the 18th hole

Penalty relief must be taken from these areas, 2 club lengths, no closer to the hole. No relief is permitted from overhanging branches that are outside of the stakes.

Cut Turf, Seam of Cut Turf, Model Local Rule F-7

If a player’s ball lies in or touches a seam of cut turf or a seam interferes with the players area of intended swing. Ball in general area. The player may take relief under rule 16.1b.

BUT interference does not exist if the seam only interferes with the player’s stance.
